“Engagé RSE”: responsibilities and actions behind the label

Over the past two or three years, inter-professions and sectors have begun to request an evaluation to find out where they stand in terms of maturity on the subject of social responsibility.

The “Committed to CSR” or “Engagé RSE” label in french is the reference label today for assessing the maturity of CSR strategies of companies based on ISO 26000*.

  • ISO 26000 is a social responsibility standard that is not certifiable. Recognising the desire for organisations to communicate their efforts to a wider public, AFNOR, ISO’s member for France, developed its own certification mark — the “Engagé RSE” label– based on ISO 26000. Organisations that fulfil the recommendations of ISO 26000 are evaluated and rated on a scale of 1 to 4, with Level 4 being “exemplary”.

What is being assessed exactly?

There are many aspect to take into account in order to obtain “Engagé RSE” label:

  1. Whether the company has a long-term CSR strategy and how it concretely translates it into local regional strategies with each of the players in the sector, whether professional unions, small producers or major industrial players.
  2. Everything related to customer relation and health safety which is at the heart of ISO 26 000
  3. Another set of criteria is linked to environmental protection, low-carbon practices, resource management, energy, water, waste, etc.
  4. The evaluation also looks at the dialogue established with stakeholders.

For whom is that label?

The “Engagé RSE” label is intended for all types of organisations (companies, associations or territories), regardless of their CSR maturity, the size of the entity or the sector of activity. Today for an organisation to being labelled “Engagé RSE” is above all exploratory: as this label is unknown to the general public, it has no immediate added value, but it does constitute an interesting barometer for finding out where a sector stands, and how it can progress.

Sophie Mazoué, CSR Director at RATP, which was awarded the Engagé RSE label in December 2018, looks back on the relevance of the label

What have been the benefits of this label?
S. M.:
There are many. Internally, obtaining the Engagé RSE Label is a key motivating factor and a real criterion for attracting new talent. Externally, it is the recognition of our CSR maturity, as we are the first transport company in the world to obtain this level. Not to mention the fact that it also enables us to position ourselves on calls for tenders that include CSR criteria. A differentiating factor with a strong impact.

P.S. If you, like me, learn better while playing I recommend you to try the game which can help you understand better all the key points of the label that we discussed: Enjoy!
